When I ran employability skills workshops for jail inmates, I usually included this “stress exercise’ in the final class. It’s a quiz where one checks off stresses in one’s life from the previous year (counting back 12 months from the day you are in).

My friend Karen sent me this lovely, lovely photo collage of all the windows in her house. In the past week she has washed them all, washed the curtains, ironed the curtains that need ironing.  Isn’t this lovely?

I haven’t slept well in two nights.  I pop wide awake about 2:00 and then listen to podcasts, look at boring YouTube videos (so many crafts one can make with concrete, none that include Jimmy Hoffa), practice relaxing my muscles, practice staring at dots behind my eyelids -and finally at 5:00AM I fall asleep.

Weather makes a big difference, doesn’t it? Quarantine when it’s balmy and sunny is different than waking to grey sky, 33 degrees, and gale warnings. We are such earthy creatures.  All the things we are and know and can do ... and we are still moody on a dreary day.

Yesterday I posted a slick letter from my state senator in which he argued that it was fine to hold an in-person election in the middle of the pandemic. I argued back.

Some of you have talked to me about feeling angry and helpless that there aren’t places to respond to this stupid, deadly crisis that didn’t need to happen.

I wrote to my Wisconsin Assemblyman Scott Allen and State Senator Chris Kapenga on Tuesday. My letter to them is in the #26 Quarantine Diary.  Read it here.

Lambs are being born!  Friend Heidi Woehick called yesterday; we’d made plans a year ago that this spring my family - two little grandkids, no waiting – could visit her farm in lambing season. Well, it’s here now but we are all in quarantine, so we won’t be visiting in real time.

Then I asked if there were any photos!

Aren’t they adorable?

After I wrote the following, I realize I want to say what I keep saying. I’m here with just Len. No kids. Quarantine with children is someone else’s diary.

I’m still waiting for ‘bored’ to kick in.

“At a time when the surgeon general is warning that this week could be the nation’s most dangerous to date — comparing the scale of the potential loss to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 — Wisconsin is on the verge of becoming the only state in April that failed to find a way to delay voting. The Democratic governor made a last-ditch plea to close the polls.
